Venerable Master Miao Jing arrived this
morning from Taiwan for a series dharma lectures she will be delivering in
English. This is her second trip to Manila this year. In
February, she was part of Venerable Master Miao Guang's team from Fo Guang
University who came to the Philippines to promote Fo Guang University's
Buddhist Studies Program. The five-member team traveled from Manila to Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo to deliver dharma lectures as well as introduce Fo
Guang University's Buddhist Studies Program.
Venerable Master Miao Jing is originally
from Canada where she was an active member of Buddha's Light International
Association (BLIA) in Edmonton, Alberta. She served as the secretary
of Edmonton's BLIA Young Adults Division from 1995 to 1999.
After receiving her Master's degree in
Chemical Engineering from Queen's University in Kingston, she traveled to
Taiwan and completed the Buddhist Studies Program at Tsung Lin University.
She is currently a graduate student of the Masters Degree Program in Buddhist
Studies at Fo Guang University in Ilan, Taiwan.
Venerable Master Miao Jing was personally
sent by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founder of Fo Guang Shan, to return
to the Philippines to deliver another series of dharma lectures in English.
Master Hsing Yun expressed that the propagation of Buddhism through the use
of the English language would ensure the continued growth of Buddhism
throughout the world. He further encouraged all devotees to support the
development of dharma lectures in English.
The head abbess of IBPS Phlippines,
Venerable Master Yung Jao said English and Tagalog are the primary mediums
of communication in the Philippines. The series of dharma lectures in
English is be a blessing to the propagation of Buddhism in the Philippines
as it would be able to reach a wider and younger part of the population.
This is truly a step forward towards the growth of Buddhism in the
Philippines.
Venerable Master Miao Jing's first lecture
in Manila will be conducted at 7:30PM tonight at the IBPS Main Hall.
The topic is "Conditionality: The Law of Cause and Effect."
